Imagining America
Imagining America: Icons of 20th Century American Art, will air on PBS this Wednesday, December 28, 2005, from 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET. The film is a journey through the transformations that took place in 20th-century America, told through the words and work of some of the century’s most significant artists.
“Anybody can make a documentary about art that will appeal to art lovers,” says Neil Genzlinger in the New York Times. “The filmmakers behind Imagining America: Icons of 20th Century American Art were striving for something more difficult: a film that would interest the uninitiated as well, conveying why Georgia O’Keeffe, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and other artistic giants of the last century are relevant to everyone.”
With an innovative design, a rich selection of over 400 iconic color images, and an engaging juxtaposition of visual themes, the book, published in conjunction with the film, presents American art and artists in a completely new light.
