Globalization and Free Trade
Two Yale University Press publications, Why Globalization Works (by Martin Wolf) and One World: The Ethics of Globalization (by Peter Singer) were singled out in an important New York Times article on globalization and free trade today. The article, about Harvard economist Dani Rodrik and his argument that the focus of American trade policy, “should not be simply on cutting tariffs and eliminating other barriers, but on offsetting the negative effect on wages and jobs from the spread of globalization and outsourcing,” is getting more and more play from policymakers in the Democratic Party. I’m planning on reading the book. The short answer is that globalised free trade does work – freedom unleashes the mind, the mind unleashes the economy.
